Upper GI Endoscopy, also known as Oesophago-Gastro-Duodenoscopy (OGD), is a diagnostic procedure used to view the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract which includes the esophagus, stomach, and the beginning of the small intestine (duodenum).
Purpose of the Procedure
Evaluate persistent upper abdominal pain or nausea
Identify ulcers, inflammation, or tumors
Investigate swallowing difficulties
Perform biopsy if required
Treat bleeding sources, remove polyps, or dilate narrowed areas
Preparation Required
Fasting for 6–8 hours before the procedure
Avoid certain medications (as advised by the doctor)

A flexible tube with a camera (endoscope) is inserted through the mouth
